Fire Prevention Activities Interrupted
by Mid-afternoon Fire
Firefighters manning a fire prevention booth in the Yarmouth Mall as well as a truck display in the mall parking lot on Saturday, October 10th. were forced to pack up quickly as pagers sounded for a fire at civic #2459 Chebogue Road. Engine #2; Unit 14, Tankers 20 & 22 as well as Units 26 & 27 responded. Upon arrival Engine 2 reported smoke showing from an attached garage and requested a second page. Tanker 22 immediately began supplying water to Engine 2 while Tanker 20 stood by as firefighters began their attack on the fire. Although crews were quick to attack the fire there was concern, due to the fact that the structure was connected, that the fire may spread into the house. Platoon Chief Hank Nickerson requested that a second line be readied and had 2 firefighters enter the house to check for any possible extension. Fortunately it had not extended into the house and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. Damage to the building was minimal although a large bundle of siding being stored was lost. Residents who were home at the time were able to safely evacuate and no injuries were reported.
