An early morning accident on Friday, March 05/10, has left a 68 year old male dead and sent 3 others to hospital with undetermined injuries. The 7:30am accident on highway 103, just outside the town of Yarmouth, occured when the driver of an eastbound Ford Contour apparently lost control of his vehicle causing it to spin around into the westbound lane where it was struck from behind by a westbound Hyundai Accent. Snow during the night created slippery road conditions. The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics attended to the injuries of the three occupants of the Hyundai, an adult male & female as well a teenage female. Firefighters assisted paramedics to remove the victims and place them in waiting ambulances. They were then transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital for further assessment and treatment of their injuries which were not believed to be life threatening. Highway 103 was closed from the Hardscratch Road to the Moods Road, while R.C.M.P., with the help of an accident reconstructionist, completed thier investigation. The highway was reopened around noon time.

Firefighters from the Yarmouth Fire Department along with R.C.M.P. and 4 ambulances from EHS responded.
