South Ohio Home Gutted
A 911 call to Yarmouth dispatch at 12:15 pm on Sunday, September 28 reporting a kitchen fire resulted in a working fire for the Department. A two story home at 1391, on the 340 Highway in South Ohio was badly gutted. As Engine 4 arrived flames were visible from the second floor, with the result Valley and District department were paged to the scene with a tanker, Wedgeport and District were on stand by at the Yarmouth fire hall. At this time no cause was determined as the Fire Marshal’s Office and R.C.M.P. were investigating. Y.F.D. returned to quarters at approximately 4 pm.
Salvage Vet Celebrates Birthday
James Amirault, a long tine member and former Captain of the former Salvage Corp will celebrate his 97th birthday on October 10. Congratulations Jim and have a great day.
Fire Prevention Week
October 5-11
Saturday, October 4, safety supplies were handed out at the Canadian Tire store.
Sunday October 5, firefighters marched up Main St. to attend the church service at Milton Baptist Church. There was a display at the mall from 2 pm to close.
The following schools will be visited by firefighters.

Wednesday, October 8- Central School
Thursday, October 9- Acadia First Nations, Boys and Girls Club, Kay Nickerson Center.
Friday, October 10- Arcadia
The mall display will be open from 9 am to 7 pm. Torch light parade starting from the corner of Argyle Street, up Main Street to Starr’s road, down Pleasant Street to the fire hall, starting at 8 pm.
Saturday, October 11- mall display 9 am to close.

Annual Banquet
Because of the Municipal Election on October 18 the annual Yarmouth Fire Department Banquet will take place at the fire hall on Friday October 17. Happy hour is scheduled for 6 pm with supper at 7 pm. Members will be informed on the 5:30 test. Veterans will be receiving phone calls from the banquet committee.
Yarmouth Fire Chief Attends CAFC Conference
Yarmouth Fire Chief Ken Kelly along with several Nova Scotia Chiefs were in Yellowknife last week attending the annual meetings of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. Chief Kelly reported a long trip but an interesting and informative conference.
